It's A free Country

After that fateful day of September 11th, 2001, Americans had a since of pride and stood hand in hand together simply because they were America. However, people did not rejoice in being American simply because they were American. They rejoiced because our enemy reminded us of the many things we take for granted such as our life, liberty, our pursuit of happiness, and our rights that protect us from becoming slaves to an oppressive state. A phrase that used to be coined throughout American culture was revitalized at this time: “It's a free country, let me do what I want.”...

Obama stresses own struggle with loans on youth-focused trip

(Reuters) - Describing his own struggle to pay off college debt and taking another dig at his likely White House rival's wealth, President Barack Obama sought on Tuesday to expand his popularity among young voters with a call to make education more affordable. During a multi-state trip to highlight rising education costs, a key theme of his re-election campaign, Obama said he knew firsthand how paying for university could hurt families and ding the economy.

Free Air

I'll admit that I like free air. Who doesn't? You pull into the gas station, find the compressor, inflate your tires to the recommended pressure (thus saving at least one polar bear), and drive off. What's not to like? People resent — I resent — having to insert quarters. "Why do I have to pay for air?" But as a business guy, I suspect that an air compressor is a fairly expensive piece of equipment. Then there's the electricity to run it, maintenance, the salary of the guy who has to go out and unkink the hose every day. And...

Is this freedom?

What is Freedom...is it getting things FREE-dom? I was thinking about this today. Is being fed a meal without working for it freedom and a right? Is having a place to sleep without working for it freedom and a right? Is getting a free pool, a den and lighting at no charge a freedom and a right? I would suggest going to the New York Zoo in any major city and tell me if the Lions, Bears and animals at that Zoo are truly free. They get fed, housing, taken care of and have everything they "need"....but are they free?...

Tuition increases are threatening to place a University of California education out of the reach of working-class and middle-class students. The roll of Californians who rose from modest circumstances to enrich our lives and our society after receiving a taxpayer-supported education at the University of California — or Cal State or the community college system — is too long to enumerate here.
